NWS Forecaster Discussion
257 fxus65 kfgz 212135 afdfgz Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff Arizona 235 PM MST sun Mar 21 2010 Synopsis...high pressure will remain over the southwest through Monday with above average daytime temperatures and scattered high cloud cover. Another weather system will bring cooler temperatures and a chance of rain and snow showers on Tuesday and Wednesday...then dry weather will return later in the work week. && Discussion...a high pressure ridge remains over Arizona and will keep dry conditions over the area through Monday. A closed low pressure system off the Baja California California coast and a low pressure trough off the Pacific northwest coast will both approach Arizona Monday with increased southwesterly flow ahead of these two features bringing breezy southwest winds by Monday afternoon. On Tuesday...these two features will begin to merge over Arizona. Models are fairly consistent in handling this scenario at this point...and bring colder temperatures due to a cold front with the northern system and enough moisture mainly associated with the southern system for a chance of rain and snow showers by daytime Tuesday. Recent model runs generally agree on light precipitation amounts...but will depend on how this complicated system evolves. Another high pressure ridge will build into the area Wednesday into Thursday for a warming trend and dry conditions. Friday through the weekend a few shortwave disturbances are possible...and could bring periods of breezy to strong winds...cooler temperatures...and a slight chance of precipitation. && Aviation...for the 00z package...expect VFR conditions for the next 24 hours with increasing high clouds. Generally light winds will continue through Monday morning...becoming SW 10-15g20kt. Aviation discussion not updated for amendments. && Fgz watches/warnings/advisories...none. && $$ Public..................djo aviation................jj Visit weather.Gov/Flagstaff for northern Arizona weather information.
