Synopsis...building high pressure will bring clear skies and very 
warm weather through Wednesday. A cooling trend and some marine 
layer low clouds and fog will occur Thursday through Friday as upper 
level low pressure approaches from the north. Locally windy 
conditions are possible through and below passes and canyons over 
the weekend as surface high pressure forms over the Great Basin.

Discussion...for extreme southwestern California including Orange... 
San Diego...western Riverside and southwestern San Bernardino 
counties. 


Skies were clear over the entire area this evening...and most of the 
winds had become light. Weak offshore flow will continue to keep 
skies clear overnight...and the warming trend will continue 
Tuesday...especially west of the mountains the offshore flow could produce 
some 15-25 miles per hour gusts through/below passes/canyons Tuesday morning...but 
this will not be widespread. 


The onshore flow should return Wednesday/Thursday and continue through Friday. 
Cooler weather will prevail...with slightly below normal temperatures by 
Friday. The marine layer could start to develop as early as Thursday 
morning...but more likely that will be Thursday night. Late in the 
week...a trough will deepen over the West Coast...with the 
possibility of a cutoff low developing somewhere over the west. 
Based on current model solutions...the low will probably be too far 
inland for precipitation over so-cal...but if the low tracks further west 
than predicted...then precipitation would need to be considered. After the 
low starts to shift inland...a period of offshore flow will 
occur...possibly a moderate Santa Ana sometime around Sunday. After 
slightly below normal temperatures Fri/Sat...warming is expected early next 
week...though model solutions are somewhat out of phase then with 
results ranging from temperatures slightly above normal to temperatures 
significantly above normal in this high-amplitude ridge/trough 
pattern.

Aviation... 
070300z...weak offshore flow at the surface should keep the coastal 
taf sites ceiling free overnight. Clear skies are expected over the 
entire area through Tuesday.
