NWS Forecaster Discussion
697 fxus62 kffc 300934 afdffc Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia 534 am EDT Sat Aug 30 2008 Short term /today through Monday/... airmass over the County Warning Area still mostly dry...except for better moisture over portions of central associated with a weak low aloft. With afternoon heating...instability becomes marginal and a few thunderstorms are possible. Best chance would again be south of Columbus to Macon. Easterly flow increasing on Sunday as Gustav moves toward the central Gulf...and Atlantic moisture is brought westward into the state. Have raised probability of precipitation a bit over the County Warning Area for Sunday. With current forecast track for Gustav...Georgia would be on the eastern edge with the outer bands affecting mainly the western zones. For Monday...have shaded probability of precipitation with the best chances over the west tapering to slight chance east. With a general easterly flow...have tweaked maximum temperatures toward the cooler numbers on the mav/FWC. Long term /Monday night through Friday/... Georgia will be between two tropical systems at the beginning of the week. Also...high pressure building down the East Coast will complicate the forecast more. If dry air pushes into the County Warning Area by middle week...we could see maybe Wednesday and Thursday with no precipitation...before Hanna does whatever it is going to do. However...at this point I will not try to time dry/wet periods in the extended with all the variables involved. For now...chance or slight chance probability of precipitation each day will do. && Aviation... winds should stay out of the east all day with high pressure ridge beginning to build in from the north. Winds speed will be in the 5 to 10 knots range all day as well. There are some areas of patchy fog but they should burn off shortly after day break. Will begin to see afternoon cumulus develop between 16-18z in the 4000-6000ft range. Some isolated rain showers/thunderstorms and rain are expected to develop across the area but should see the most development south and east of mcn. && Preliminary point temps/pops...
