NWS Forecaster Discussion
763 fxus65 kpih 230953 afdpih Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Pocatello Idaho 253 am MST Monday Nov 23 2009 Short term...today through Wednesday night. Snow and wind producing trough has moved into Wyoming this morning and precipitation has diminished across the area. Upper ridge builds into northwest today where it is expected to remain for the next several days. An upper wave pushing into British Columbia today will ride over the top of the ridge on Tuesday with the southern extent of the precipitation band cliping the northern reaches of the forecast area...then clipping the Wyoming border Tuesday night. The ridge restrengthens and shifts east into Idaho on Wednesday and Wednesday night. Slight chance probability of precipitation will continue today near the Wyoming border with lingering instability. Low chance probability of precipitation return to the upper snake Highlands on with the wave moving over the ridge on Tuesday and Tuesday night. Otherwise...a return to fair skies...however temperatures will be quite cold overnight with high temperatures moderating to near seasonal by Wednesday. Through the period. Hanko Long term...Thursday through Sunday...both the ecm and GFS delay arrival of precipitation associated with the next Pacific disturbance until Friday. There still is quite a bit of run to run variation in the shape of the trough and placement of precipitation. The current forecast maintains the trend for Friday and Saturday. Once this disturbance passes...a high pressure ridge develops over Oregon with northerly flow over Idaho and generally cooler temperatures. Receiver station && Aviation...scattered low clouds producing localized MVFR cloud deck along the eastern bench areas of the snake plain this morning. Clouds should dissipated around 18z but may redevelop Tuesday morning in the upper snake plain near kida. Receiver station && Pih watches/warnings/advisories... none. && $$
