001 fxus64 klch 080156 afdlch Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles la 856 PM CDT sun Sep 7 2008 Update... latest upper air sounding shows moisture value has increased as return flow has started. Still most of this moisture is shallow and below 5k feet. Radar has been showing a few showers over the coastal waters and the lower Atchafalaya basin...although activity has been weakening. Will make a slight adjustment to grids and forecast to keep a slight chance of showers in over the coastal waters for some nocturnal activity late tonight with the increase in moisture. && Rua && Previous discussion... /issued 359 PM CDT sun Sep 7 2008/ Discussion... another fall day allowed temperatures climb into the middle 80s at Lake Charles. Winds have begun to swing around to the southeast. Currently winds are east but this will change by tonight. This will allow Gulf moisture to return which means afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms for Monday through Wednesday and a bit warmer tomorrow. Ike is moving towards Cuba and looks to move along The Spine of the island nation through at least Tuesday before finally making it's way into the Gulf. Latest track has Ike continuing on a northwest course and moving towards the Texas/Louisiana coast. It this happens the region will begin to see winds increase on Thursday into Friday with rains moving into the region on Friday into Saturday. But this is still very dependent on the track of the storm and the organization.
