Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Gray ME
859 PM EDT Wednesday Oct 15 2008

Synopsis...
a cold front will approach the region from the west tonight and
will cross the area on Thursday. High pressure will build over the
area Thursday night through Saturday and will move offshore on
Sunday. Another cold front will cross the region Monday and will
be followed by high pressure on Tuesday and Wednesday.

&&

Near term /until 8 am Thursday morning/...
increasing clouds overnight as cold front approaches from the
west. Going with low chance probability of precipitation in western zones for the last
half of the night but it appears the bulk of precipitation holds
off until daybreak for much of the forecast area.

&&

Short term /8 am Thursday morning through 6 PM Thursday/...
cold front gradually crosses the forecast area on Thursday making
for a mostly cloudy and rainy day. Think the bulk of the
precipitation falls during the morning into early afternoon before
tapering to showers. Expect most of the shower activity to end by
late afternoon/early evening as cold front passes offshore.

&&

Long term /Thursday night through Wednesday/...
it is going to be a rather quiet extended period for northern New
England. Cold front will move offshore Thursday evening...with
high pressure moving in from the west. Surface high pressure over
the Great Lakes will slowly migrate eastward through the weekend.
Weak disturbance moving through westerly flow aloft late Sunday
could bring some clouds and an isolated shower to the mountains. A
weak cold front will drop through the region late Monday and early
Tuesday...bringing a chance of precipitation to the region.

&&

Aviation /01z Thursday through Monday/...
short term...generally VFR overnight. MVFR/IFR ceilings developing
early Thursday ahead of cold front.

Long term...VFR conditions will dominate the period.

&&

Marine...
short term...no flags.

Long term...all quiet on the waters.

&&

Gyx watches/warnings/advisories...
ME...none.
New Hampshire...none.
Marine...none.
