Area forecast discussion

Synopsis...high pressure and a very dry air mass will keep the 
forecast area sunny and warm through the weekend. Moisture will 
gradually increase from the south early next week supporting a 
slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over northwest 
Arizona Monday and Tuesday.

Previous discussion from 320 am PST...high pressure will remain in 
control through at least today with hot and sunny conditions with 
light winds. Weak low pressure will develop along the California 
coast Sunday through Monday resulting in a light southerly flow over 
the forecast area. This will gradually bring an increase in moisture 
leading to a little more afternoon cumulus development with a slight 
chance of thunderstorms by Monday afternoon over the mountains of 
Mohave County. Temperatures will remain several degrees above normal 
although the increased moisture will take a degree or two off the 
maximum temperatures for Monday. 


Long term...only minor changes made to the grids based on the 00z 
model trends. Left a mention of precipitation for the southeast County Warning Area for 
Tuesday with both the GFS and ecwmf forecasting light quantitative precipitation forecast. The most 
notable grid change was a slight lowering of high temperatures as 
suggested by the guidance numbers and the proximity of a closed low 
off the West Coast. Some model disagreement with the position of the 
low center by the end of the week and the eventual track over the 
weekend which increases uncertainty. However...regardless of the 
uncertainty...both the GFS and European model (ecmwf) forecast a northward movement 
of middle level tropical moisture from Baja California beyond the extended term. && 


Aviation...for McCarran...no significant weather impacts to air 
traffic flow expected over the weekend. Skies will be clear with 
light northeast winds developing by late this morning and continuing 
through early evening. Southwest winds around 10 knots are possible 
Sunday afternoon. 


For the rest of southern Nevada...northwest Arizona...and southeast 
California...no significant weather impacts to air traffic flow 
expected over the weekend. Skies will remain clear and winds will 
generally be from the south to southwest at around 10 knots with a 
few gusts near 20 knots during the late afternoon.
