NWS Forecaster Discussion
248 fxus64 kmeg 300751 afdmeg Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Memphis Tennessee 251 am CDT Sat Aug 30 2008 Discussion... Skies are mostly clear across the forecast area early this morning with temperatures in the middle 60s to middle 70s. Cold front extends across extreme southern sections of the forecast area and should move into central Mississippi by later this morning. With the front going south of the forecast area somewhat drier air has moved into the region with dewpoints mainly in the 60s. Think any rain that forms today should remain ahead of the front so have removed probability of precipitation from forecast for today. Upper level ridge starts building into the region over the weekend so dry weather should continue through early Monday with temperatures slight above normal levels. Hurricane Gustav continues to move toward the Gulf of Mexico. Current TPC forecast has Gustav making landfall along the central Louisiana coast late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Rain from Gustav could begin to move into southern sections of the forecast area as early as Monday afternoon. Rain threat will continue for much of the week with the best chance of rain for the forecast occurring Tuesday and Wednesday. After Gustav moves out the region...may need to deal with another tropical system. Tropical Storm Hanna moving north of Puerto Rico at this time is forecast to track west before curving southwest. Long range computer models suggest that Hanna may eventually makes its way into the Gulf of Mexico which means it could eventually spread some rain into the forecast area but too much uncertainty remains to mention effects of Hanna in forecast. && Preliminary point temps/pops... mem 92 73 93 74 / 10 10 10 10 mkl 90 67 92 69 / 10 10 10 10 jbr 89 69 91 72 / 10 10 10 10 tup 92 70 92 71 / 10 10 10 10 && Meg watches/warnings/advisories...
