Marine weather discussion for Gulf of Mexico...Caribbean Sea and

southwest north Atlc S of 31n W of 55w



Upper levels...

deep layer anticyclonic circulation is centered over the eastern

and central Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles and over

the southeast part of the Atlantic area. Moderate southwest

winds are to the north and northwest of the ridge over the Gulf

of Mexico and the northern part of the Atlantic area. The high

will contract some Tuesday and Wednesday as a strong middle

latitude trough develops over the central and eastern United

States. By early Friday Ridge will be south of about 22n and

moderate westerlies will be north of 22n with strong westerlies

over the northeast Gulf of Mexico and Florida and the northwest

part of the Atlantic area.



Surface...

north of the trades there is a weak pressure pattern with weak

surface winds mostly less than 15 knots. Next cold front...

associated with the strong middle latitude trough...will move

off the Texas coast Tuesday and reach from North Florida to

Western Bay of Campeche midday Wednesday and South Florida to

Yucatan Peninsula midday Thursday and from 31n70w to across

central Cuba to Gulf of Honduras midday Friday. Winds will be 20

to 25 kts behind the front.



Trades of 20 knots or more are confined to south of 17n east of

80w through Tuesday. Winds will be up to 30 knots in the south

central Caribbean. The winds will then weaken some Wednesday and

Thursday and remain weak Friday as the above mentioned frontal

trough weakens the ridge north of the area.



Otherwise winds will be less than 20 kt.
